About Tony Cook ltd. Skirlaugh garden and aquatic centre
Tony Cook’s is a family run business founded back in 1966 as agricultural contractors, operating from Burstwick, near Hull. The three directors, Mr A D Cook (Tony), Mrs Sue Cook and Mr V A Cook (Vanston) are all active in the business, and whilst Tony and Sue are still based at the original site at Burstwick, Vanston (Managing Director) works from the head office based on the more recently acquired Skirlaugh site.
—Reception & Offices
There are several parts to the business; Fencing, Landscaping, Automations, Trade Counter, Joiner’s Workshop, Skirlaugh Garden & Aquatic Centre and allotments which are all run from the garden centre premises and offices based at Hull Road, Skirlaugh. Whilst the Plant & Machinery Hire, Septic Tanks and retail and agricultural trades shop, known as the ‘One Stop Country Store’, are all based at Daisy Hill, Burstwick.
—Skirlaugh Garden Centre
The Burstwick store opened in 1986 to complement the agricultural and plant hire business operating from there, whilst the purchase of the garden centre in 1998, although somewhat diversifying, also brought with it the opportunity to expand the, by now, well established fencing business and to build an engineering workshop where the company’s own vehicles are maintained.
—Fencing & Timber Yards
Since purchasing the garden centre site, it has been vastly expanded and now includes a gift shop, well known in the local area - ‘So Gifted’, a cafe serving hot and cold food, various retail outlets, a plant nursery and a children’s play area. The site also accommodates a number of allotments.
The company also owns other property; Whinhill Buildings, bought in 1983, originally used for engineering and haulage, is currently used for the storage of plant and machinery. A privately operated garage is also run from these premises and space is available to rent. Two further properties in Holderness purchased in 1983 are run as farms utilising both machinery and contractors. A further investment property is a farm in Estonia.
—Interior of Country Store
The Tony Cook Group employs a wide range of knowledgeable and talented people across the diverse aspects of the company. Both sites, Skirlaugh and Burstwick, are open 7 days a week. This means that there is always someone on hand to give friendly, helpful and professional advice – your enquiries are always dealt with promptly and efficiently
